Talk:Ariva

From Tobacco Products

I don't know who's "in control" here, but as an investor in Star Scientific since 1998, I can GUARANTEE that Star is DEFINITELY NOT "owned by RAI" !!

Star is listed on NASDAQ as STSI, and has been locked in a battle to the death with RAI over patent litigation since 2001 (Star accuses RAI of infringing on tobacco curing patents). Second "go" at appeals court about to get underway.

Also, Ariva is marketed by STSI for exactly, and only, what is said in promotion ... for "when you can't smoke". Star cannot and never has marketed it as a "smoking cessation aid", because that would be a use that would come under the FDA regulations between 2001 and June of 2009. It was and is marketed only as a "traditionally marketed tobacco product" to use when a smoker needs nicotine but can't smoke.

That said, though, it is undeniable that it's best use IS INDEED as a smoking cessation aid, and the most affordable one. Plus, its use in that way has a much higher success rate than standard nicotine replacement therapy, based on experience with similar products.

Star will soon have an OTC tobacco (smoked or not) cessation aid that is nicotine free, called CigRx (but it is not "Rx" ... will be "OTC"). It is based on other components of tobacco that actually are responsible for the habituation of tobacco (nicotine is not the only culprit).
